Get Me to the Shops!

Avenel Active’s ‘Get Me to the Shops!’ community bus runs from Avenel to the Seymour shopping centre every Thursday morning.

Avenel residents can join the bus at Avenel Railway Station at 9.15am each Thursday or phone John Thomson 0439 269 799 to book pick-up from your home.

Bookings must be made before 6.00pm each Wednesday.

‘We provide a door-to-door service!’, says volunteer Jim Billings. ‘We collect passengers from their homes, help them with shopping in Seymour if needed, and drop everyone off back to their homes..’

Volunteers are available to help passengers on and off the bus and with any other assistance needed in Seymour. Passengers also use the service to attend medical appointments, go for a swim or catch up with friends.

We meet at a coffee shop in Seymour each week before returning to Avenel’, says Jim, ‘It’s a great opportunity to catch up with your neighbours, as well as get to the shops.’

The community bus returns to Avenel by 12.00pm. The service is available to all Avenel residents of all ages. The return trip from Avenel to Seymour costs $5 only.

In 2025-26 the 'Get Me to the Shops!’ community bus is supported by Seymour Coaches and the Department of Transport and Planning Victoria's Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program.
