Welcome to Avenel
Avenel is a small town in central Victoria at the gateway to the spectacular granite landscapes of the Strathbogie Ranges.
The Avenel township grew around the Hughes Creek at a crossing point for the Old Sydney Road and for travellers to and from the goldfields in the 1800s. Many historic buildings survive from this period and contribute to Avenel’s village atmosphere and charm.
Avenel today is a thriving town with a strong community spirit, offering residents a wide range of community organisations, clubs and activities to participate in and enjoy, as well as growing hospitality, retail and visitor attractions.
